When editing records, here are some basic, but important, rules to follow:
| • | Make a backup of all files before doing any editing |
| • | Be sure you know what changes actually need to be made |
| • | Never save changes until you verify that the new data was entered correctly |
| • | Make sure that you do not change "linking" values ( items that tie a record to other records or files ) |
| • | When you complete your work, rebuild the file indexes |
| • | Do not try to "adjust your books" by changing values ... it will result in inconsistencies in data |
